CAMPUS GIST : The rising profile of an emerging leader, Comrade Olatunde Ridwan Rabiu



Recently, I came across the inspiring profile of an intelligent Comrade in Ayetoro Campus of Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU) - which breeds the Agricultural Science students. His names are Rabiu Ridwan Olatunde.  He is popularly known as 'Ola Southy'.  He is the incumbent Speaker of Nigeria Association of Agricultural Students (NAAS), OOU CHAPTER.

  As we all know, Student Union leadership is formed to promote and defend the welfare needs of the Students' community in Nigerian tertiary education system.  Part of the leadership's duty is to engage Government and the authorities of the institution through dialogue on certain policies which tends to provide certain minimum services that will promote a sustained environment for academic interactions. In essence, the Students Union serves as the voice of the Students in all tertiary institutions in Nigeria.

  THE RISE OF COMRADE OLATUNDE RIDWAN RABIU

  Comrade Olatunde Ridwan Rabiu had his elementary education at Korede Marvellous School, one of the private nursery schools in Oke Sopen, Ijebu Igbo, Ogun State. He proceeded to Molusi College and graduated with good grades before gaining admission into the prestigious Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU), where is currently studying Agricultural Science. He is a 500-level student.

   Comrade Olatunde Ridwan Rabiu rose to the limelight of students Unionism when he first emerged as the Deputy Speaker of Nigeria Association of Agricultural Students (NAAS), OOU CHAPTER. He served diligently and delivered outstandingly on the tasks attached to his office. As attested to by many, his unprecedented achievement as the Deputy Speaker gave him a nod ahead of his contemporaries to later emerge as the Speaker. He is soft-spoken, well oriented and intellectually sound. He is also aware that as the Head of the Students Representative Council (SRC), he represents the interest of all its members at all levels, hence, he promotes constructive relations between students and the wider community.

  In one of the articles he wrote on Student Unionism and its tactics, Comrade Ola Rabiu simply stated that, 'Students are the Students' Union and every student is automatically a member and without them, the Union wouldn't exist'. This further points to the fact that he sees himself as a servant-leader, elected by the majority to champion the course of checking and balancing the activities of the Central Executive Council (CEC).

 There is no doubt whatsoever that Students unionism is desirable. Usually, what the authorities expect is a mature and responsible leadership from members of the Students' body, as they are critical link between the students and the school authorities. Towards this end and in order to deliver a responsible and visionary leadership, Comrade Ola Southy as popularly known, has put in place a good number of measures to condemn some dastard acts which questions the integrity of an emerging student leader.


  With all of these, it is ostensibly evident that Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU) has produced yet another sagacious and radical young leader whose overall intelligence and enviable qualities would be useful to the growth of his immediate community, Ogun State and Nigeria at large.

Restaurant gets license to sell human flesh

RESTAURANT IN NEW YORK GETS GOVERNMENT APPROVAL TO SELL HUMAN FLESH AS MEAT Where else but New York City? A newly opened restaurant within the city limits is boasting the nation’s first license to serve human flesh on the menu. - A corps member has honoured his mother by performing a parade for her - The corps member identified as Evesi Collins visited his mother to perform the parade  - It was gathered that Collins did so to thank his mother for putting him through school       A young male corps member serving in Kwara state identified as Evesi Collins has honoured his mother by performing a parade for her at home. The corps member was said to have visited his mother at home to do the parade. The National Youth Service Corps member was seen in a video performing a parade in front of his mother. The corps member was also heard saluting his mother loudly during the parade. In the video, it could be seen that Collins did the parade exactly how he was taught to do it in the National Youth Service orientation camp.
