History Can’t Be Kind To Failed Leaders, Oppressors and Riggers, PDP Counsels Buhari, APC

Image
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) counsels President Muhammadu Buhari and leaders of his dying All Progressives Congress (APC) to apologize to Nigerians for their misrule and start getting ready for APC’s fizzling before 2023, instead of begging for an undeserved place in history.  The party says President Buhari’s plea to history shows a personal apprehension in confirmation of the failure of his administration and party, APC.  His comment on history, when the residents of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) paid him a Christmas visit, demonstrated that the APC has come to the end of its journey and would soon be committed to the dustbin of history.  The PDP recalls that Mr. President had earlier, in the National Executive Committee  (NEC) meeting of the APC expressed fears over his party's inevitable fate. His appeal to history cannot change APC's trajectory to extinction before the 2023 general election. The party notes that the fact that the public is already di...

WHAT DO YOU PAY FOR - ELOCUTION OR ACCENT ? - Fasanmi Oluwashina

Image
If accent is taught, fake will be the end product. A number of schools employ diction teachers who have no idea of what elocution and enunciation is about. Some of them are school leavers or undergraduates while some are graduates with no relevant  academic background to English Language. These teachers muddle up, add their own flavour 'tongue twisting and nasal accent' and then transfer it to their pupils. The pupils will give you a 'sing song' accent eventually. Little wonder some school owners ask many times, why don't 'we all' have a conventional way of pronouncing English words? Parents on the other hand  do not know any better. All they want is their children to sound foreign. Teaching accent is not the goal. It is simply understanding the science of English phonetics. If you articulate English sounds correctly, place stress on the right syllable, use the right intonation, pronounce words and speak correctly, practice and master these, you will sound...

Image
The Independent National Electoral Commission on Monday said that results of the 2019 general elections were not transmitted electronically to its server, stressing that the Commission only experimented the technology during some staggered elections held in 2018.  The Commission said that the clarification was necessary because of rising controversies on the transmission of 2019 Presidential Election results from states to the INEC server. Speaking during the Post Election Retreat organised by the Commission for its staff and ad hoc staff engaged for the last general elections in Osun State, INEC National Commissioner, Solomon Soyebi, explained that many factors forced the Commission to drop the idea of electronic transmission of the results to a central server.  Soyebi added that INEC experimented with electronic transmission of results during Anambra, Sokoto and Osun elections held before 2019 elections but the Commission did not sustain the use of the technology during t...
