Our Union will not shield violators of government's orders, AMORAN warns Okada riders
The Articulate Motorcycle Owners and Riders Association of Nigeria (AMORAN) Ogun State Chapter, has reassured the State government of renewed efforts and vigour towards making Okada riders in the State to strictly adhere to the orders put in place by government and health authorities to curtail and contain the spread of coronavirus.
In a statement signed by the Publicity Secretary of the Union, Taofeek Sokoya, he emphasised that the Union will allow zero tolerance for violation of the orders, noting that the battle would be fought collectively.
'We wish to appeal to our amiable State governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun on the obvious violation of government orders by the Okada riders. There is no sane human being or reputable organisation that would be glad with such worrisome development.
We assure the government that the three motorcycle unions in Ogun State (ACOMORAN, AMORAN and ROMO) are ready to work hand-in-hand in order to achieve the common goal of enforcing these orders. In light of this, a joint task force team would be set up. We will saddle this task force with the responsibility of identifying, arresting and handing over violators to security agencies for severe punishment. Our nerves will never be calmed until we are deeply sure that realistically, a very good percentage of these riders are made to abide by the orders', Sokoya said.
The Union also enjoined commercial motorcycle riders to do away with acts that tend to sabotage the government's efforts.
'Obviously, the safety measures put in place is for our good. There is no gainsaying that the spread of this dreadful disease is on the high and at this critical time, what needs to be done is to cooperate with the government on whatever safety measures she brings.
Hence, we advice commercial motorcycle riders to always use their face mask and not carry more than one passenger. These two cogent orders will be strictly enforced by our task force team. Let's note that the task force team will not only work on Mondays - Fridays. Rather, its operation will run through Saturdays and Sundays', Otunba Sokoya stated.
Recall that the State governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun in his press statement on Friday, 19th of June, 2020 said he would ban the operation of Okada riders in the State, should they continue to gladly violate the orders on wearing face mask and carrying not more than one passenger.
