Leadership roles and creating a formidable platform for the rising youths

While nosing for prepared, determined and well-groomed 'future leaders', our team met with Comrade Raimi Adedamola Rilwan, a 300L student of Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU).

For too long, various individuals have given different definitions of Leadership, especially as it occurs to them.  Some people defined leadership as both a research area and a practical skill which encompasses the ability of an individual or organization to 'lead' or guide other individuals, teams or entire organizations, others simply described leadership as the art of motivating a group of people to act towards achieving a common goal.

Candidly, these definitions capture the essentials of being able and prepared to inspire others as effective leadership is based upon ideas (whether original or borrowed) but won't happen unless those ideas can be communicated to others in a way that engages them enough to act as the leader wants them to act.  Today, the principal challenge combating the whole world is good leadership. Successive regimes of government in different countries have struggled to ditch out a pinch of the attributes of a good leader/effective leadership. Glaringly, it is as a result of this that many countries are lagging behind in the comity of nations.  However, Nigeria should beam with a smile now that we have focused, dedicated, non corrupt, oriented and visionary youths whose qualities of good leadership can not be rivalled. One of such is Senator Raimi Adedamola Rilwan.

 PROFILE

Raimi Adedamola Rilwan started his early-age education at Pacific International School, Sagamu. He proceeded to Mega Strides Model College in Sagamu, where he earned his SSCE.

Tertiary Education took him further to Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, Abeokuta where he bagged his National Diploma. He is presently a 300L student of the prestigious and popular Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU), Ago Iwoye, studying Integrated Science Education. He is the present Chief Whip of OOU Student Union Government, Students' House of Senate.  His contributions towards the development of students unionism has been impeccable.

Dated back to his days at the polytechnic, he founded a student-based association for all students in his department with the sole aim of protecting the overall interests of the entire students' populace. The effect of this is immeasurable as students in his department and indeed, the entire school, regained their voice and soon began to speak out against injustice. Nothing more portrays one as a good leader than this, except for undue sentiments.  Also, while representing his constituency as an Honourable in the Student Representative Council, faculty of education, he facilitated policies and laws which were solely in the best interest of his fellow students.

When asked of his mission, Senator Adedamola Raimi calmly responded, 'It is my wish that one day, I'd represent my people as a lawmaker at the National Assembly. I shall deliver diligently and outstandingly'.

One then begins to wonder how effective such a young man would be, should he find himself in a leadership position in future. Youths like Comrade Raimi Adedamola Rilwan should be allowed to occupy leadership roles as it helps in growing the knowledge about same and prepare them for a much more difficult task, especially in the political settings.
