He left a vacuum that may never be filled, Abiodun laments Kashamu's death
Since the death news of Senator Prince Buruji Kashamu broke, it has triggered a wave of shock and grief, with Nigerian leaders cutting across political and business spectrum paying glowing tributes to the astute, caring and consummate leader.
Senator Kashamu, 62, died of COVID-19 complications at the First Cardiology hospital, Lagos on Saturday, 8th of August, 2020. Kashamu was a member of the 8th National Assembly, where he represented the people of Ogun east senatorial district at the red chamber.
The Ogun State House of Assembly member representing Ijebu North State constituency 1, Hon. Sylvester Abiodun (Slykoko) described the former lawmaker's death as 'too close for comfort'.
Abiodun, in a condolence message released by his media assistant, Hassan Hammed, explained that Kashamu's death is a big blow to the good people of Ijebu North, Ogun east, Ogun State and Nigeria at large. He stated that the vacuum left by the deceased may not be filled in many years to come.
'It is with a heart full of sorrow and eyes full of tears that I write to commiserate with the good people of Ogun State and Nigeria on the demise of my leader, Senator Prince Buruji Kashamu. The works of Sen. Buruji Kashamu stand as a testament to the power of grassroots organizing, proof that one person's simple idea that a community should come together to plant trees can make a difference, first in his immediate society, local government, federal constituency and now, across the country.
Sen. Kashamu's tireless efforts earned him not only a political recognition but also the respect of many who were inspired by his commitment to justice, rule of law, empowerment and eradication of poverty. His legacy will stand as an example to all of us, myself in particular, to persist in our pursuit of progress. The political and business sectors have lost a powerful force. Truly, Sen. Kashamu is connected to so many power brokers in the country but I'd say he is more connected to the downtrodden. He was always glad to mingle with the common man and made meaningful depositions into the lives of many", Abiodun said.
Furthermore, Abiodun explained that Kashamu was a philanthropist of note who has greatly touched many lives.
'Kashamu is well known as 'Alaanu Mekunnu', a name given to him as a result of his unrivalled philanthropic gestures. He blazed a trail for poverty alleviation and survival of the common man. There are just a few people who have had such a profound impact on humanity than Kashamu. He established Omo Ilu foundation with the sole aim of attending to people's needs, an act he derives so much pleasure from. The number of lives that has been touched by his foundation is countless. It is a tribute to his passionate determination and concern for fellow man that so many people feel such a deep sense of loss at his passing", he stated.
Finally, Abiodun prayed that God grants repose to the departed soul, comforts his family, associates (business and political) and give him (Abiodun) the strength to bear the irreparable loss.
